St. Benedict's Junior An independent Roman Catholic School next to the Benedictine Abbey. Founded in 1902 it has expanded from a converted house to become a well resourced school with good facilities. Planning to go co-educational from September 2007. Up until 2000 the head teacher was always a member of the Benedictine Order but now Robert Simmons has that position. Feeds St Benedict's School with entrance to the senior school all but automatic. The school has invested heavily in IT and shares facilities with the senior school including a first class sports hall. The ISCI Inspection report for the junior school carried out in May 2003 praises the quality of teaching and leadership of the school. How do you get in? The school requires you to complete an application form and then make a visit. They will need a Catholic baptismal certificate although there are a limited number of places for other baptised Christians.
