A planning application to transform the Reynard Mills Trading Estate (off Windmill road on the Ealing/Brentford border) into a residential community has been submitted to the London Borough of Hounslow.

The Estate’s largest tenant recently vacated the site and the owners are now seeking permission for 315 homes in a mixture of town houses and apartments with new green spaces and play spaces for children.

The site is owned by LP Brentford, a subsidiary of Invista Property Foundation Trust Ltd (a property investment company listed on the London Stock Exchange).

The developers say the proposals have been subject to a widespread public consultation, which included a public exhibition in May - however many local residents were unaware of the plans until notified by a newly established campaign group windmillroadaction@gmail.com .

A spokesperson from Savills (development managers and planning consultants) said:

“The majority of the site is now vacant and the existing buildings are old, contain asbestos and are in a generally poor condition. The site is surrounded by homes, schools and a church, and redeveloping it as industrial space would require HGV access and 24 hour working which is not appropriate for the area.

“A new housing scheme will not only deliver much needed new homes, including affordable housing, but also reinforce the residential nature of this part of Brentford. We believe this project will make a positive contribution to the local environment and make the area an even more attractive place to live.”

A decision on the proposals by Hounslow Council is expected by September.

Plans of the proposed development are available for inspection at Brentford Library (0208 560 8801).
