Lib Dems target South Acton ward

The Green Candidate for the election in the South Acton ward of Ealing, Brian Outten, has been declared ineligible to be a Councillor in the Borough, because he is an employee of the Council.

A spokesperson for the local Green party said of the disqualification, "We are endeavouring to advise voters that this is the case by placing notices at the polling stations."

The Green Party ceased campaigning in the ward as soon as the position became known

The South Acton ward is potential a key ward in the battle for control of Ealing Council. Although held by a comfortable majority by Labour it is a target for the Liberal Democrats and, if it were to change hands, that would be a strong signal that the control of the Council was changing. The Liberal Democrats are hoping that issues such as the tram and the controversial plans for development on the South Acton Recreation Ground will lead to a decisive swing in their direction.
